I CRAVE energy!!!

First of all a great big thank you to Aaron Decker (CRAVE Energy God)!!! Even though we are new at publicly reviewing energy drinks we are professionals at drinking the drinks. Thank you for sending us some samples (5 exactly as requested). Hopefully, we attracted some more attention to your brand for you guys!!!

We were super excited to receive this sample!!! Since we are on a massive rotation (now with additional samplers added) we were a bit behind on trying CRAVE energy. Also, one of our main men on EDT was out for a couple weeks due to knee surgery.

CRAVE energy was an AMAZING discovery because up until this past week, we have only been drinking energy out of the can. CRAVE energy is different for more than one reason, the obvious reason is it comes in a powder form.

A powder form you say?!
Should I eat it like a pixie stick??
No...no you should not.
Should I snort it?
No, we HIGHLY don't recommend that!!!
So, how do I indulge???
SIMPLE!! Every box (or sample) of CRAVE comes with INSTRUCTIONS!!!
(Observe Below)

1. Get one glass of water or juice!
2. POUR
3. STIR
4. Let it sit to absorb the floaties
5. ENJOY
How To Mix Crave: www.MoreCrave.com

Not only is this delicious drink in a handy packet that is easy to carry, this energy gem is a mere 9 calories!
I've been trying to eat healthy and exercise so this drink was easy for me to gulp down eagerly (no guilty feelings as I sometimes have from the other sugary drinks we consume). CRAVE gave me a good, but light buzz. I wasn't as jumpy or jittery as I have been from other drinks we have tried. I did find that the buzz did not last as long as my usual Thursday buzz. However, it was nice not to crash and burn like I do almost every week.

Waking up on Friday without an energy drink hangover was pretty glorious. I was able to get up and go about my daily duties with flying colours. CRAVE tasted (and smelt) to me like cotton candy. It was best served in ICY cold water. Later after I drank the remaining sip it tasted a little synthetic to me. CRAVE says it would be good in beverages other than water but I thought it was sweet enough on it's own.
All in all I give you a 7.5/10 CRAVE!!! I would definitely drink this again.--Kristen

Nice of the Crave Energy peeps to send us their powder to try out. I had my doubts about this. EDT has its rituals – “cheersing” each other with our cans, ripping off the can tabs for Kristen to store in the archive, smashing the empty can in the face of our coworkers when they belittle our EDT Club. I didn’t know how a powder was going to affect the ritual.

While the ceremony around EDT was affected, Crave Energy was good energy. It tasted like a mix of Jolly Ranchers and Kool Aid. And because it’s in water, it made it easier to chug. It took very little time to perk me up. In the first couple of hours, there were a couple of ‘light-headed moments” but after that it was a nice sustained buzz. It even helped me stay even-keeled when trying to put my untired son to bed – a Patience Powder if there ever was one.

While the energy was nexxellent, an energy drink in a glass never feels right to me. But if I need to have a quick, efficient and sustained energy boost, it’s Crave.--Clancy

Now that we've tried CRAVE energy, what should we do now Aaron Decker?!?!

PEACH ICED ENERGY TEA (from the deep South)!!!!

It was if I was seedin' and sowin' on the farm in Columbus, Georgia. "COME AND GIT IT!!" (My Southern Mamma would say, ringing the bell for the farmer's break). What she puts out for us is delicious and refreshing. I take a sip of the libation and the sweet sweet taste of the Georgia peaches dances upon my tongue in joyous celebration. That's what you get when you try Rockstar's: ICED (Peach Tea). Pure deliciousness. I give Rockstar: ICED a HARD & PEACHY 8/10.-Kristen

“After two weeks of somewhat disappointing EDTs, it was good to have a drink that I knew would be a home-run. “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl.  “Peaches” by  Presidents of the United States of America. “The Peach Pit” by Aaron Spelling. How can you go wrong with a peach, really? This drink was sweet like a peach, smooth like a peach, and gave me a very clean energy buzz that kept me up but not rangy for most of the evening even after chugging, just like a peach. Well done Rockstar! You are the Peaches to my Herb.”

Oh Rockstar...you had me at Star, but now you've gone and solidified your place in my heart as the world's best. See, it was my turn to pick up our EDT drinks last Thursday, and I was already an hour late with the delivery. I had 2 options: drive to some remote location and hope to find a random store that had something we'd never tried before and wow everyone, or run into the local Mac's and get lucky. I opted for option 2.

From the moment I saw the golden cans behind the foggy fridge glass in the convenience store, I knew I was about to discover greatness. At first I was just really happy to have found something we hadn't tried yet, then I read the label "Iced". I was saved. This was going to be good. I filled my arms with the sweating cans, and headed back to the station. Everyone's eyes lit up as I walked in (at first because, like I said, I was late) and I'm pretty sure each EDTer said the exact same thing "ooooh, what's this?! Iced! Ooooo". That is everyone but Nikki who just said "yaaaaay!". Easy to please that one.

I cracked my can first and took a swig. I immediately swiveled my chair around to face Clancy. "Holy crap this is good!" I believe is what I said. "It's sweet...omg it's PEACH TEA".

See, I thought I was just getting Iced Tea, not peach tea. My mind was blown.

Pretty sure I drank the entire can in under a minute. It was that good. Afterwards I am fairly certain I could see through time and had the ability to fly.

Rockstar Iced is officially my new favourite. It tastes amazing and it gives you the kind of buzz we've all come to expect from the Rockstar brand.

I'm going to go big with my rating and say Iced was a solid 10 out of 10.

Well done Rockstar. Well friggin done. -Ashley

RAGE!!!

EDT just gets more and more exciting each week. A succesful Twitter account with more mentions and samples being shipped to us here and there. Our most recent Energy Thursday's drink up for review: RIPPED RAGE: Thermogenic Matrix.

Claiming to be one of "The toughest on the shelf" Ripped Rage was simply like any ol' energy drink to me. The flavour wasn't great. The energy was good, but I've personally had better. I ended my work day off with my usual Thursday run (gotta run off the extra energy). My run was surprising a lot longer and easier than usual. I was also looking for another place to rent in the area I live. Upon returning home I found myself more anxious than usual. I usually feel great after a run but this time I was tired, grouchy and full of rage (sugar crash maybe?). I didn't stay up as I usually do either but I did feel myself motivated enough to learn how to cut my own hair. Which I felt was pretty ambitious.

(Above: Nikki taking double energy after no sleep for 3 days).

All in all this drink was not the best I've had but still sufficient enough for our weekly EDT!!!! Can't wait until next week!!! I give RIPPED RAGE a sold 6/10.

A Much Need Thursday!!

This past Energy Drink Thursday was much needed!!!! It had been raining for like the past two weeks here in Ottawa. Everyone was down. A great big buzzkill. On the bright side we reached 100 twitter followers!!! Amazing!! Hoping the #energydrinktwitter trend will catch on soon!!

I started my day off with a coffee. It was Nikki's turn and she chose Rockstar: Perfect Berry. That it was.

Rockstar's: Perfect Berry came in the perfect skinny can with the perfect sized straw and the can is HOT PINK!!!!! Rockstar's beverage was not only delicious but it kept me going for hours!!! That night I went to bed, tossed and turned for a good hour and a half, and got up for another 2 hours of wakefulness!

This EDT we decided to take a few family photos. The first pic below shows us all (without: Ashley). I love this pic because it really shows the enthusiasm of the group with the drinks. (from left to right Jamie, Clancy, Nikki and Kristen).

The next pic is all of the EDT ladies. Now what company in their right mind wouldn't be damned proud of these ladies representing their drink!?!?!

Energy Drink Beauties!!!

Of course I'm the awkward one standing in the middle of two hot and tall blondes. Brunettes represent!!!!

Overall, Rockstar's: Perfect Berry was delicious, full of energy and 10 CALORIES!!!! I give Perfect Berry a 7.5/10

“Bide your time PerfectBerry RockStar. That straw that you attach to your Hot Pink can will attract all the juice-box babies. They’ll expect your sugary taste, be desensitized to your sharp carbonation and enticed by your cotton-candy colouring. Bide your time. When older EDTers like myself die prematurely of massive coronaries, you’ll be the #1 choice of the new class.”

5.5/10-Clancy

BeaverBuzz: Dam Good

It's about 10am on Thursday April 19th. I had just finished my Tim Hortons coffee. I went out to talk to the receptionist Nikki (a fellow EDTer). Nikki and I were trying to remember whose day it was on rotation to pick up this week's energy drink. Then, the most glorious thing happened! A package!

Our blog has been up and running for about 3 weeks now. It is pretty amazing that we have already had several requests about where people should send their samples. This Thursday package we received was not just any package, it was our FIRST package! Beaver Buzz Energy, their timing could not have been more perfect and convenient. I ran into the back of the office with the package, excited like a little kid on Christmas. I tore open the box with Clancy and we were even more excited when we peered inside, past the packaging peanuts at some Beaver Buzz merch! What a plus! On top of a BeaverBuzz sampler case were BeaverBuzz stickers and a hockey puck. Each EDTer in our group has added the stickers to our own desks. We all have half cubicle walls. Perhaps in a future blog I will include pictures of our desks scattered with pictures and drink tabs of past EnergyDrinkThursdays.

Since there were 5 different flavours in our sampler pack we decided to stick to one flavour for review: Citrus (Pictured above)

The next BeaverBuzz flavour will come up in rotation in about 6 weeks.

Red can and a greenish-yellow juice. I have never been a fan of Citrus drinks in all of our weeks of EDT. If there were other flavours available I would have gladly picked them over citrus. Surprised at my first sip, this drink was not an orangy flavour like cough medicine (yuck). Which is mostly what I picture when I come across a Citrus-flavoured energy drink. The taste was sweet but not sugary. I noticed on the can that BeaverBuzz that says "No Corn Syrup" and "Natural Sugars" impressive. BeaverBuzz is Canadian like us...we were not surprised at the natural taste. I really liked the grapefruit flavour and aftertaste. The flavour was light and not overpowering. I did not find the energy from this drink overpowering either. However, I then encountered an evening filled with barbequed burgers and beers. BeaverBuzz: citrus definitely helped me get through the evenings with no effort at all. I went to bed late again as I usually do on Thursday. The next day I was hurtin' but I blame the beer of course...and wine....and maybe the energy drink for keeping me up so late. I give BeaverBuzz: Citrus a 7.5/10.

You are sitting on the dock at your friend's cottage in the middle of a pristine July afternoon. The lake water is tugging at your loins to jump in. Your friends are inside doing who knows what. But, you're more content staying where you are. Why? You're not sipping on a beer. You take another sip of something more Canadian. More satisfying. A Beaver Buzz. This is the new drink of Canada's endless afternoon. 8 /10
--Jamie

I remember being in a bar in Tweed, watching a band, things starting to decelerate as the flat draft spread through my bloodstream like frost across a window pain. Just then the band kicked into a song called “Vampire Beavers”. “Something furry out for blood,” they sang. I snapped to it.
The power of the Beaver, even its mention in a very obscure song, healed me from my depressed state. Years later, a drink called “Beaver Buzz” was my gateway into the world of Energy Drinks when somebody went crazy and sent about 50 cases to my workplace. So imagine my delight when our first EDT review was for Beaver Buzz. Not only did they send a sample pack, but stickers and a logo puck as well. Outstanding Beaver Buzz! You, like the Beaver, know how to get ‘er done.
We chose to start with Beaver Buzz Citrus. The taste was fantastic. Sweet, but not saccharine or syrupy in any way. Just refreshing. I guzzled it quickly in the car before stopping for a long lunch hour bike ride.
At one point, I thought I was flying – the magic elixir proving once again that the Beaver is a very powerful animal.
Back at the car, bounding into the driver’s seat, I thought I smelled flowers. It was the empty can of Beaver Buzz Citrus that had brightened the interior of my car with its most terrific scent. “So,” I said to myself, “it’s an air-freshener, too.”
There really isn’t anything Beaver Buzz Citrus doesn’t excel at. It tastes and smells great, and lets me kick pond-enemy ass all day and all night. The buzz is well-deserved
8.5/10

--Clancy

My encounter with Beaver Buzz Citrus was…well it was sort like a one night stand after a long night of drinking: I was really excited for it, but even as I was experiencing it I knew I was trying to convince myself I was enjoying it more than I actually was, and afterwards I was kinda tired and my mouth tasted funny…
I love Beaver Buzz, don’t get me wrong. I just wasn’t thrilled with this flavor nor did it give me the boost I was hoping for. I still hold a special place in my heart for the Buzz and I am confident that with a whole case of flavours left to try I’ll be back on the Beaver band wagon shortly. 6.5/10
Till then…zzzzzzzz

The Big Launch

This past Energy Drink Thursday was a hit! With the launch of our new facebook page, twitter page and most importantly this blog, the members of EDT definetly felt the hype of the big launch.
The biggest events were on twitter. Several tweets, retweets and even promises of samples from energy drink companies lets us know that we will experience success!!
And now onto the review: I imagine our reviews will become more and more thourough after blogging about a new energy drink each week. I'm sure we ourselves will experience some feedback about the blog where we will need to change a few things each week.
This week it was my turn to bring in the drinks! Last week, I noticed that Rockstar has a new lineup of about 4 drinks. One of my fellow EDTers Jamie brought in an unusual looking can from Rockstar last week. It was a white can with blue writing and this indicated to me that there must be new flavours!
Having tried actual coconut water in the past, I was jonesin' to try Rockstar's energy drink version!
From the second it hit my lips it was very cool, crisp, rerfreshing and sweet (not sugary). Although I enjoyed the coconutty flavour, there was still something quite artificial tasting about this drink. Given the fact that energy drinks are not natural in the first place, I was not surprised. Taking a closer look at the can I noticed a little subtitle on the front: 10% Coconut Juice. Well there it is. This drink has it's coconut flavour from the 10% coconut juice which is mildly dissapointing. Nonetheless it was still tasty. I feel this would even be a good drink to add some Malibu and crushed ice to on a hot summer's day. Dare I say a delicious new drink for the summer months? MMMM.
The energy feeling from this drink was fairly standard for myself. I had a lot of work to do Thursday and was quite satisfied with the way the energy helped me to pick up the pace! The workweek will be over in no time ( I think to myself). Going home that evening I started off with a run before dinner. My standard run was over in no time and I wasn't even tired after! The energy not only worked, it lasted several hours! I was up until midnight!! The energy drink hangover the next day was a little more intense than usual. It was very hard to get moving that morning. In fact, I was pretty overly grouchy until I settled myself down with a coffee. Tune into next week's review. I believe that BEAVER BUZZ is on the way! Follow us on twitter @Energydrinkthur and if you're interested in sending samples so that we can review your drink please e-mail us at energydrinkthursdays@hotmail.ca

Overall I give Rockstar Rehab's coconut water 7/10.

Amidst a flurry of frail promises encountered in my daily client meetings, one sturdy element emerged. The Rockstar Rehab turns your nerves from puppy in a haunted house to MacGuyver in a supply closet. 7.5/10-Jamie Brook

Rehab Coconut Water = my favourite of all time. Does not match my outfit though. -Nikki Slipetz

Almost 7pm & still feeling great due to today's Rehab. Awesome selection. Next week's has big shoes to fill!-Ashley

I didn't like it at all. It tasted bad-Clancy Hoy

Caffeine is a helluva drug...

In October 2011 there was concern that energy drinks were too dangerous for people in Canada. I think we are all pretty aware of the damage energy drinks can do.  They contain controversial ingredients – namely guarana, taurine, caffeine, Cyanocobalamin, citric acid and ginseng.

It's interesting to me that people are beginning to compare energy drinks to drugs. Obviously, misuse could lead to a hospital visit. I believe at one point there was talk of making energy drinks illegal for purchase to anyone under the age of 18. I even heard that stores might even need to lock them up. It will be interesting to see in the next year the challenges we may have to face when buying energy drinks.

I personally don't see much difference between energy drinks and coffee. The feeling I experience is the same.
